Preppy South African-born artist St. Lucia took the stage and surprised fans at a recent Abercrombie & Fitch Rising Stars event in Los Angeles. They’re gearing up for their Spring tour with So Cal locals Foster the People in April/May 2014.

Growing up performing with Drakensberg Boys Choir in South Africa is where lead singer Jean-Philip Grobler got his first experience in the music world. From there, Grobler moved to New York and set up a small studio in Brooklyn. In 2012, he partnered with Columbia imprint Neon Gold Records, and St. Lucia was born.

St. Lucia was the perfect fit for Abercrombie’s event, playing songs from their synth pop album “When The Night.” The band performed “All Eyes on You,” a track from their self-titled EP that was used in advertisements for Victoria’s Secret and Taco Bell.  St Lucia closed down the party jamming with their electro beats and confetti dancing in the air along with the audience.

Guests were treated to a red carpet night of cocktails, appetizers, a variety of photo ops (including a GIF and light writing booths), skeet ball and the chance to mingle with the new upcoming models of Abercrombie and Fitch. A tropical bar—fitting of St. Lucia’s spirited style—was the centerpiece of the event with dim lanterns and canoes floating overhead. The studio was decorated from ceiling to floor with Abercrombie’s signature palm trees and vintage sporting props (where the company originated).
